I've seen a lot of discussion on other boards across the net about variations on the oil cleansing method as well as ways to tweak it for different kinds of skin.

Please feel free to add your comments here!

As for me, I normally have dry skin, so I use simply olive oil (EVOO) or a mixture of olive and almond oil. Sometimes I add a drop of clary sage essential oil (for hormone balance) after I apply the oil. Works wonders for me.

» gruvee - OCM - Oil Cleansing Method

I've got extremely dry skin, yet was wary of OCM b/c I wear a lot of makeup to cover up hyperpigmentation marks, + I emphasize my eyes with lots of mascara and eyeliner, and wasn't sure OCM would remove all the gunk.

I gave OCM a shot in May 2007, and haven't stopped! I LOVE it!!! So it's been 8months since cleanser last touched my face - and I haven't suffered for it at all.

I tried the Castor Oil/Olive Oil combo - and it didn't work for me. Castor Oil dries out my skin too much, so I don't use it at all, in any combination. I didn't like Olive Oil either.

I find Virgin Coconut Oil to be amazing!!! It really dissolves all my makeup quickly. This is my favourite oil for OCM. However, I've been learning more about oils and how my body works. I understand Coconut Oil is cooling in nature, and my bodytype is prone to being cold, so I'm using 'warm' natured oils now like UNTOASTED Sesame Oil or Sweet Almond Oil.

Untoasted Sesame Oil is 'warmer' than Almond Oil, so I've been using that. It does a great job at dissolving and cleansing as well. In fact, based on Ayurveda, it removes toxins etc... so I'll stick with Sesame Oil.

Here's my method:
- Pour about a Teaspoon of Untoasted Sesame Oil/Almond Oil/Coconut Oil into my hand & rub my palms together to warm it up.
- Massage the oil all over my face, especially my eyes b/c of all the makeup I use there
- Take a washcloth (microfibre or even cotton) that's been soaked in hot water from the tap, and just hold it on my face for about 5-10 seconds.
- Use the washcloth to rub all the makeup off.
- Then follow up with a cotton pad soaked in a toner from Avalon Organics/Alba, and use that to remove all residue.
- Moisturize! I use Emu-Oil that I've mixed with Essential oils suitable for my skin type/issues.

Lovely lovely stuff!!
:)
