Hi, I was so happy to see that I was not the only person in the world, that eats baby power! I really dont know why I do this? Do you think I have a problem.. I had gastric bypass 3 years ago and lost 149lbs. My iron is very low, but eating babypower make me feel calm and relax. No one knows that I do this. But I have had alot of gas in my belly, I wonder if it comes from eating the baby power? Eating Baby Power is the first thing I do when I get home from work, and before I go to bed! I cant wait to get home and have some. I was wondering is this a danger to my health! Someone please help!

- Baby powder addiction
I'm glad this discussion has given you a bit of comfort that you're not alone in facing this problem.
My recommendation for you is that you speak with a counsellor or therapist who specializes in addictions and food and nutritional counselling. What you describe sounds like an addiction - and while the word is scary, it's ultimately something that you can solve, with a bit of help.
Best wishes for great health in the new year,
~Victoria

Hello anniek13,
Again, I recommend you speak to your doctor or a nutritionist about this. They will be able to give you suggestions that will make it easier for you to stop eating baby powder.
Best wishes,

I am so glad to see that I am not alone...I also have a craving for baby powder and am very anemic. I want to stop and my doctor says to stop...but I really can't it's like I have to have it...I haven't told anyone except my doctor (very casually though). What I'm worried about is the talc in the powder and if it could damage our system or produce some sort of cancer?

I can't speak with any certainty to the long-term effects of eating the powder, but I think you realize that you're better off without it.
I believe that you could get some help by speaking to a counselor or psychotherapist, particularly someone experienced in working with addictions. A good quality, natural-sourced, bioavailable iron supplement could help with your anemia, which might in turn relieve the draw of the baby powder (cravings often signal a nutritional need that is not being met).
Best wishes,

Hello Elaine,
Cancer is a big word and since the medical experts aren't completely sure yet what does or doesn't cause it, I'm certainly not qualified to make a guess.
I think you realize that the baby powder isn't the best thing for you. The Walgreens baby powder almost certainly contains artificial ingredients - since it's not intended to be used internally, there are no safety regulations on what can or can't be applied to this kind of product. The kind of "burning" skin reaction you describe sounds like a skin detox reaction to the poison you're ingesting from the powder. (That's not real lavender or chamomile, by the way: it's most likely a synthetic aroma.)
I would certainly recommend you find a holistic practitioner in your area who can help you to detoxify this reaction, and speak with your doctor and/or a counsellor who can help you with the addictive aspect of this problem.
A holistic practitioner will also be able to recommend foods or a supplement that can bring your iron levels up and take care of the psysiological aspect of your craving.
I believe that you can find help and that you have it in you to quit this harmful habit.
Blessings,
~Victoria
