I’ve mentioned several natural and holistic approaches to working through grief and I'd like to elaborate on one of my suggestions here.
Those who have been following this blog know that I’m a big fan of therapeutic-grade essential oils to assist with almost everything! The oils I’m referring to are not the kind you’ll find in most décor or health food stores for aromatherapy use – oils that are therapeutic grade must be grown, harvested, processed, and bottled differently, and are far more potent medicinally than their perfume grade “cousins.”
In my tips for dealing with grief and mourning, I mentioned two essential oil blends that are helpful for many people suffering through a loss: Joy and White Angelica.
Joy is a blend of bergamot, ylang ylang, geranium, rosewood, lemon, mandarin, jasmine, Roman chamomile, palmarosa and rose. The combination is sweet, uplifting, and popular as a women’s perfume because it smells so wonderful.
Joy can be applied over the heart or other chakras, used as aftershave or dabbed behind the ears or on pulse points like a fragrance. Its therapeutic effect is to improve the mood and revitalize energy and tired emotions. It brings a new sense of hope and emotional fortitude to those who are dealing with a difficult time in their life.
The other blend mentioned in the article, White Angelica, was developed to protect the aura and the energetic field from encroachment - by other people, by aspects of the environment that are draining, and by non-corporeal energies which can be harmful. It is a blend of bergamot, geranium, myrrh, sandalwood, rosewood, ylang ylang, spruce, hyssop, melissa, and rose - many of which are holy oils, used for spiritual and physical protection for more than two thousand years.
White Angelica has been described as creating what feels like “an angelic shield” to protect the wearer from negative energies or feelings. It is ideal for those who are sensitive to the feelings of those around them, especially if you’re going through a challenging time yourself.
Apply White Angelica on your shoulders, chest, and on any chakras that feel sensitive or vulnerable; you can also run the oil through the aura with your hands to create a protective “shield.” Healers use White Angelica before seeing clients, to protect themselves from absorbing the client’s energy and their issues.
I recommend Joy to help your body release tired, draining feelings from the past and to welcome in new and positive energies and experiences, and White Angelica for protecting yourself emotionally and physically so you can heal. Both of these oils keep grief and other detrimential energies from lodging in your body's physical systems and harming you.
