Star of the Passover story, Hyssop has a sweet smell & fights virus

Previous blog posts have discussed Peppermint, Rose, and Clary Sage: Here's another favourite essential oil, Hyssop.

My newest favourite essential oil is Hyssop.

I was unfamiliar with hyssop until I learned of its role in the Passover story. I knew about its powerful antibacterial and antiviral properties, so I imagined it would have the same bitter fragrance and strong flavour as oregano, basil, and other mint oils.

Was I surprised when I opened the new bottle! It's not as caustic as even cinnamon or clove. Instead, the first aroma to hit my nose was a light, sweet, "top note" fragrance. Underlying the sweetness is a mild middle note that is more what I had expected from such a plague-fighting herb. Still, it is a remarkably pleasant and enchanting aroma.

What is Hyssop oil good for?

Hyssop boosts the immune system and fights viruses, fungi and bacteria. One safe way to apply it is to rub a drop into the soles of each foot so that it will be absorbed via the reflexology points there and strengthen the entire body and all systems.

Hyssop is one of the ingredients in White Angelica precisely because it is just as powerful at killing infections on a spiritual level - it is great for cleansing the aura and breaking energetic cords. And the oil is mild enough to be applied directly on almost any of the chakras. Like White Angelica, a drop on the top of the head builds up the aura's unconscious defences and can protect from psychic and emotional disturbances.
