Aura, energy field, auric field, chakras, chi, shakti, prana, life force. The field of energy around the human body has been described by different cultures in many ways. Many healers, recognizing the connection between this energy and the human body, use the “energy body” to detect illness - and to heal it - before it affects physical systems. In the energy field, it is the colours and shapes of the aura that speak volumes about the emotional state, health, and even a person’s life purpose.
The Parapsychological Association(1) defines the aura as: “a field of subtle, multicolored, luminous radiations said to surround living bodies as a halo or cocoon; the term is occasionally used to refer to the normal electromagnetic field forces surrounding the body.”
Every living thing produces its own aura or energy field. The subtle energy of even a non-sentient life-form like a plant can be observed using kirlian photography or other devices which detect the aura.
Whereas the aura of a healthy plant is usually a blur of white light, humans and other animals produce auras made up of layers and patterns of frequencies that are usually interpreted as color. These colours and the shape and form of the aura around the body can be used to diagnose health and describe a person’s temperament, personality characteristics, and passions.
In natural medicine, the aura is used, first as foremost, to identify physical health and emotional well-being. The aura has many layers (seven, according to Donna Eden) which are affected by and affect every aspect of a person: health, intellect, mood, personal strengths and weaknesses, genetic predispositions. The most superficial levels of the aura relate to how a person feels, emotionally and physically, in the present moment. Yellow in the aura, for instance, signals an intellectual focus. Blue is about communication and expression, orange represents creativity and outgoing energy, and violet bespeaks spiritual focus.
On deeper levels, areas of flow and snarls of blockage in the aura may indicate emotional and mental habits as well as patterns in the physical body. This is where sickness may be detected by an experienced and intuitive healer, long before it turns up in the body or on medical tests. This is where emotional issues can be drawn out of the chakras and other energy centers and healed.
The most profound levels of the aura are connected to a person’s inner nature, who they are, and what they are to do on Earth in this lifetime.
Even for people who can see auras with their naked eyes (most children and very few adults), it may be impossible to read the aura deeply enough to see a person’s inner essence or the color of their life purpose aura. The innermost, hidden layers of the aura represent the parts of ourselves that many people choose to keep from acquaintances, from friends, from lovers... and often even from themselves. Because this energy is so deep in the auric field, most photographs of the aura do not show the life purpose colour.
When healers or new age enthusiasts talk about indigo kids or crystal children, they’re referring to two life purpose aura colors that have drawn attention in the past decade. These colors seem to be new, or at least uncommon until the past quarter of a century, and we are only beginning to learn their potential now.
