Indigos vulnerable to allergies, psychic phenomena, energy imbalances, depression or self-sabotage may find valuable support in holistic treatments and spiritual pursuits

Indigo refers to a life color that has become increasingly prevalent worldwide in the past two decades - even as asthma, allergies, autism, and medication for depression have been on the rise. Indigo children and adults may be particularly in need of support because of their sensitivity to energy, chemicals, foods and emotional abuse. Energy Medicine, a holistic nutritional plan, homeopathic remedies and essential oils can have a significant impact on indigo children and can make the difference between surviving and really thriving in their lives.

What is an Indigo Child?

Indigo Children and Sensitivity

All children can be sensitive, but indigo children are especially so.

Indigo is the color of the third eye chakra, the part of the energy “body” that senses things that are not seen by the physical eyes. Indigo children are often gifted with extrasensory perception, heightened intuition and empathy.

These psychic abilities can be a challenge in a skeptical world, especially when parents discourage their kids from following hunches or dismiss children’s insights as nothing but fantasy. Indigo children take criticism hard and need parental support in order to learn to trust themselves and their psychic skills.

Physical Sensitivity

Indigo children may be susceptible to allergies, asthma, and other recurring health challenges. These are not so much a problem of the immune system as an issue with the chemicals in our air. Pollution and toxic chemicals in hairspray, perfume, toothpaste, soap and shampoo, sunscreen, insect repellant and cleaning products can all be allergy triggers for indigo kids.

Like most ADD/ADHD children, the health and vivacity of indigo kids can be improved by so simple a measure as making sure that all personal care products brought into the home contain no synthetic ingredients; eating food pure of additives, preservatives, or artificial flavors; and avoiding certain foods known to be allergy and sensitivity triggers. They do not respond well, on the whole, to pharmaceutical approaches. Find more information on balanced nutrition and food sensitivities in children in Natural Remedies for ADD and ADHD Kids.

Confidence, Arrogance and Self-Sabotage

Indigo children and adults commonly have problems with self-confidence and self-sabotage. Although they often will initially come across as arrogant, most of these children actually walk a fine line between utter confidence in themselves and their abilities (the “air of royalty” that is so often referred to when people describe indigo kids) and profound insecurity.

They take themselves very seriously and may be prone to serious depression, eating disorders, or bipolar behavior. In addition to being hailed as the color of intuition, indigo is known by color therapists as a hue that, in too much concentration, triggers anxiety and depression.

These and other emotional challenges can be lessened with treatments like Energy Medicine, energy psychology, dowsing, homeopathic remedies, and essential oils. The same essential oils that are useful with ADD kids often apply here, as well as oil blends including Joy and White Angelica.

Indigo Independence vs. ADD and ADHD

Among the many current diagnoses of ADD and ADHD are a vast number of indigo children whose needs are not being met by their families or the regular school system. Indigo children are smart, advanced thinkers, and most have no patience for sitting still when they’re bored.

Indigo children will not bow to authority unless they are respected in return. They will not follow directions unless they are given a reason or an explanation. They want to know everything. If they don’t see the purpose of a class exercise and believe they can outthink their teachers, they are likely to cut corners and do what they want to do.

Likewise, indigo children develop their own ways of thinking that may not match the thinking and belief systems of their parents. Most indigos are drawn to explore spirituality but they will not necessarily choose to follow the religion of their upbringing. They are liberal and often radical in their thinking, which can create conflict with parents and other family members over the course of their lives.

Indigo teens have trouble understanding destructive repeative behavior of adults at a lower vibrational pattern and need to be taught patiences. It is true they have a tendency to become "arrogant" however with love and continued instruction their magical knowledge will be revealed... "Parents put there fears on their children, why?"(quote from a crystal/indigo)They also need to be reminded of their amazing instincts at young ages lest they forget who they are in this wild wild world. "Do you remember when you were three and we planted peas on March 17th ...?" Yeah... I remember the green man told me too..." Nature is a great tool in which to nuture indigo/cyrstal children they need to be taught how to ground themselves.
