Carolee Bateson-Koch's book, Allergies, Disease in Disguise presents ample information and a systematic program to cure allergies through natural treatment.

Carolee Bateson-Koch’s book, Allergies, Disease in Disguise: How to Heal Your Allergic Condition Permanently and Naturally (Alive Books, 7th Edition 2002) offers a ray of hope to those whose lives have been turned upside down by allergy symptoms. While conventional wisdom offers little hope to allergy sufferers of ever living a normal, allergy-free life, Koch presents a program for the natural cure of allergies.

One Girl's Story

The book begins with the amazing story of how one child’s intense allergy-related sufferings were overcome by treatment on Koch’s program. The girl’s mother relates how her daughter experienced nearly constant pain, poor digestion, stuffed nasal passages, ringing ears, crusty eyelids, and poor sleep before treatment on Koch’s program. Following treatment, the girl’s symptoms had disappeared and she was able to enjoy a normal life.

Illness or Allergy Symptoms?

Koch clearly explains the root causes of allergy and describes the wide range of symptoms that may be present due to undiagnosed allergies or food sensitivities. In a chapter entitled, “Evidence of Allergy”, Koch categorizes allergy symptoms under headings such as neurological symptoms (hyperactivity, apathy, depression, dizziness, for example), joint symptoms, circulatory symptoms, respiratory symptoms, gastrointestinal symptoms, and others. Some of the symptoms listed here may be surprising to readers who may not have suspected an allergen to be the cause behind the symptoms.

Antibiotic Use and Allergies

One surprising point made in the book is the connection between antibiotics and the development of allergies. When antibiotics are taken to treat infection, says Koch, intestinal inflammation can result. “Once the gut lining becomes inflamed or damaged, the function is disrupted. The spaces between the cells of the lining enlarge, allowing large protein molecules and other substances to be absorbed through the normally small spaces between the gut lining cells.” Allergies are one result of Leaky Gut Syndrome.

Conditions Conducive to Development of Allergies

Koch examines three common conditions leading to allergy: yeasts and moulds, parasites, and digestive difficulties. She then presents ways to reverse these negative conditions, preparing the body to live allergy-free.

Throughout the book are case studies of real people who’ve overcome allergies in their lives and are living symptom free.

The program is outlined in seven simple steps and puts an emphasis on parasite control within the body (including candida overgrowth), enzyme therapy, nutritional support for optimal health, and strengthening the immune system.

Supplemental information is provided in easy to follow lists, charts, and diagrams. There is also a question and answer section at the end of the book that features frequently asked questions.

Hope for the Devastation Brought About by Allergies

Anyone who has ever suffered allergy symptoms or has had a loved one who experiences allergy symptoms knows the devastating effect that allergies can have on health and lifestyle. Allergies, Disease in Disguise is the answer to the havoc wreaked by allergies.

“You do not recover from allergy by treating one part of the body or by simply eliminating histamine or by making yourself comfortable with medications. You treat allergy by normalizing body functions,” says Koch (Allergies, Disease in Disguise, p. 261). In her book, Koch shows you how.
