Yeast infections caused by candida albicans are common in the genital and oral regions of the body.

Yeast infections are very common and most women suffer from vaginal yeast infection at least once in their life. Yeast infections are not limited to the vagina. It is not uncommon to suffer from yeast infections in other areas. Babies often get yeast infections in the diaper area. Yeast infections in and around the mouth are also common. Natural remedies and treatments can effectively cure yeast infections. If you have frequent vaginal yeast infections some lifestyle changes will prevent their return.

What is a Candida Albican?

Candida albicans are the type of fungus most often responsible for yeast infection in people. Yeast infections caused by candida albicans are common in the genital and oral regions of the body. Overgrowth of candida albicans is common in people with a compromised immune system. If you are susceptible to colds and flu and have frequent problems with candida albicans the Echinacea treatment below will be helpful.

Salt Water for Treatment of Yeast Infection

Use 1 cup of sea salt in a bathtub of warm water. Soak the area affected by the yeast infection on a daily basis. This will help treat the yeast infection and sooth the itching and burning at the same time.

Vinegar for Treatment of Yeast Infection

Put 2 tablespoons of vinegar in 1 quart of water. You can use this vinegar as a douche for vaginal yeast infections or apply to the area of the skin effected by yeast. Do this for only two days and do not use a vinegar douche unless you have an active vaginal yeast infection, because douching with vinegar washes out the bacteria and will remove beneficial bacteria as well.

Garlic for Treatment of Yeast Infection

Eating garlic on a regular basis is the best natural remedy to prevent recurrent yeast infections. Garlic can be applied topically as well to the skin. Garlic will sting and burn slightly when applied to a yeast infection. Garlic’s medicinal properties are released when it is crushed or chewed, so it is important to incorporate raw garlic into your diet occasionally. It is also important to crush the garlic immediately before applying it externally.

Antifungal Creams for Treatment of Yeast Infection

Antifungal creams can be applied to the skin for the topical treatment of yeast infection. This helps reduce the itching and stinging associated with the infection. Antifungal creams are available over the counter in most drug stores.

Oils for Treatment of Yeast Infection

Tea tree oil and oil of oregano are antifungal oils and can be applied topically as a natural treatment for yeast infections. These oils have both been tested with remarkable results.

Lactobacillus Acidophilus for Treatment of Yeast Infection

This is a beneficially bacteria available in powder or capsules at health food stores. Yeast infections occur when there is fungus and not enough beneficial bacteria. You should always purchase this refrigerated. If it is not refrigerated in the store, it will not be effective. Lactobacillus acidophilus has been shown to reduce yeast overgrowth in the vagina and in the intestines. Taking this supplement regularly will treat and prevent yeast infections.

Yogurt for Treatment of Yeast Infection

As an alternate to lactobacillus capsules or powders, you can eat yogurt that has been cultured with these beneficial bacteria. This is a very effective food treatment because lactobacillus acidophilus must be refrigerated to preserve it and all to often it is not refrigerated in stores. Look for a plain yogurt without sugar that states it has live, active lactobacillus acidophilus cultures on the label.

Cinnamon for Treatment of Yeast Infection

Cinnamon is a well-known spice that is also an antifungal. It is effective in treating yeast overgrowth and can be used in the bath, prepared as a tea, or applied topically as a paste.

Echinacea for Treatment of Yeast Infection

Echinacea is an herb that is known for stimulating the immune system. To fight the fungal infection, consider taking 200 milligrams of Echinacea 3 times daily.

Daily Habits for Treatment of Yeast Infection

For vaginal yeast infections or yeast infections in the pelvic area, try removing underwear at night. For infants, remove the diaper to allow the air to circulate on the area. Wear underwear or diapers made of natural fibers such as cotton rather than synthetic fibers. Natural fibers breath and allow air to circulate more freely. This keeps the area dry and free from moisture, which breeds fungus. Use a hair drier to completely dry the pelvic area after bathing or swimming. Avoid using scented perfumes or body powders in the area. Avoid colored or dyed underwear or diapers.

Foods and Beverages to Avoid

Avoid all alcoholic beverages and foods made from yeast such as bread. Avoid all sweets including sugar and high fructose corn syrup often found in sodas and a surprisingly large number of packaged foods that are not necessarily sweet tasting. During an active yeast infection reduce the amount of starchy foods you consume.
