Miraculous Apple Cider VinegarHealth Uses of Apple Cider Vinegar Make it IndispensableThe common Apple Cider Vinegar probably already residing in your kitchen cupboards may offer a seemingly miraculous host of cures for what may ail you.
Through inattention to details, I recently got a horrific sunburn on the tops of my feet. The skin turned an angry purple/red, was blistered and was swollen. Had I tried Apple Cider Vinegar on it, a friend asked me as I complained bitterly about the pain. Remembering that my mother had also used Apple Cider Vinegar for sunburns, I dug it out of the kitchen and applied it full strength every 4 hours to my feet. Although I went around the house smelling like an Easter egg, overnight, the pain lessened, the swelling went down and the skin color changed from an angry mottled to a dark tan. Two weeks out the skin has still not peeled. It got me to wondering about other uses for which this lowly kitchen ingredient has been used. Soothing Sunburn and Insect BitesApplying Apple Cider Vinegar either directly or diluted to sunburns or itchy insect bites is believed to reduce inflammation and itching. A note of caution here, do not apply to skin that has an open cut. As an acid, the vinegar will cause a strong sting. Taming Facial OutbreaksAdd 1 teaspoon of baking powder into 1 tablespoon of organic Apple Cider Vinegar and mix. Using cotton balls gently apply to the face concentrating on problem areas. Rinse with warm water. This simple combination acts as an astringent and may help to control skin outbreaks. Aiding in DigestionUse 1 to 2 tablespoons of Apple Cider Vinegar in a large glass of cold water and drink 1/2 hour before each meal. Reports indicate that this helps with general digestion, acid reflux, constipation, and in weight loss. Revitalizing FeetSoaking your feet in a bath of 2 tablespoons of Apple Cider Vinegar in warm water may prevent or eliminate foot fungal infections and associated irritation. An Apple Cider Vinegar foot bath in cool water helps to calm and revitalize tired hot feet. Easing HeadachesPlacing 1 to 2 Tablespoons of Apple Cider Vinegar in boiling water and then carefully inhaling the steam is said to reduce headaches and help clear nasal congestion. Calming Sore ThroatsEither using a gargle of Apple Cider Vinegar in warm water (1 to 2 teaspoons in a cup) or taking a Tablespoon straight (some add a bit of honey to counter the sour) is believed to help with a bacterial or virus caused sore throat. As the vinegar is an acid that can potentially damage the enamel of your teeth it is important to rinse your mouth out with plain water after you have taken the vinegar straight. Banishing WartsA cotton ball soaked with Apple Cider Vinegar and bandaged nightly on top of a wart is said to help within 2 weeks to reduce or eliminate the wart. Toilet Bowl CleanerApple Cider Vinegar poured directly into a toilet bowl and allowed to sit will remove hard water stains. Apple Cider vinegar is a remedy that many of us remember from our parents or grandparent’s day. With the cost of modern medicines for simple cures, it may well be time to take if off your shelf, dust it off and begin putting it to good use around your house.
