Psychotherapy tells us that trauma and post-traumatic stress may take years to treat. A recent series in the Toronto Star went so far as to claim that Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (or “PTSD”) is impossible to cure. But a new book by clinical psychologist Fred Gallo, Ph.D., says otherwise. Energy Tapping for Trauma: Rapid Relief from Post-Traumatic Stress Using Energy Psychology discusses trauma-related disorders and presents new and effective ways to completely heal from trauma and PTSD.
“Energy psychology” is a term for techniques that adjust the energy systems of the body to heal emotions.
Energy psychology practices usually rely on either the meridian or chakra system. The form of energy psychology developed by Fred Gallo, "Energy Diagnostic and Treatment Methods," is meridian-based and uses movement to balance emotional energies.

The latest offering from Fred P. Gallo, the first person to coin the phrase “energy psychology”, guides professionals as well as those who are new to energy healing through simple yet profound techniques to heal emotional pain.
A deceptively slender volume, Energy Tapping for Trauma is a condensed course in healing trauma. Beginning with a summary of conventional treatments for PTSD (including psychoanalysis and pharmacological approaches), Gallo quickly turns to a basic introduction to energy psychology principles, followed by the real purpose of the book: energy tapping approaches geared specifically for trauma.
Gallo’s tapping exercises for trauma go from “simple” to “complex” and culminate in the highly effective “eight-step process.” Each technique is straightforwardly presented and accompanied by clear illustrations of each of the points to tap, interspersed with real-life stories of people who have used these exercises to heal from all kinds of trauma (war, car accidents, rape, physical injuries).
Throughout the book, Gallo’s approach is simple, down-to-earth, and personal. He shares the impact of his mother’s death when he was twelve and relates his own stories of trauma and healing. If anything, his efforts to give living example of the impact of his techniques may lead to some over-explanation, but the simplicity and efficacy of the tools themselves more than compensate for any redundancy.
The techniques in Energy Tapping for Trauma are a natural extension of Gallo’s previous teachings in energy psychology – yet they are simpler and more effective than ever.
Gallo has simplified the tools that can help when a person feels stuck, or if it feels like energy tapping has stopped working. A handful of techniques to unblock reversals, switching, and other energy challenges are found in a chapter called “Troubleshooting.”
Unlike some of Gallo’s previous books (e.g. Energy Diagnostic and Treatment Methods and Energy Psychology: Explorations at the Interface of Energy, Cognition, Behavior and Health), Energy Tapping for Trauma is useful not only as a reference for practitioners but also as a supercharged self-help book on any journey to peaceful empowerment.
