SAM e- According to Carol and Richard Eustice in their article "What is SAM-e?," it is a chemical that is found within the human body and has been noted for its effectiveness in the treatment for people battling depression as well as arthritis. This compound of methionine is also an amino acid, which is found in foods that contain high amounts of protein.

According to co-authors Geoffrey Cowley and Anne Underwood in their article "What is SAM-e?," " It helps regulate the action of various hormones and neurotransmitters, including serotonin, melatonin, dopamine and adrenaline."
